This long-standing UUMC Bible Study continues this spring on Tuesday mornings from 10:00-11:00. The group will once again meet at Amity UMC. Rev. Carl King is the leader of this study that alternates between a seasonal study of the lectionary and in-depth studies of specific books of the Bible.
We invite all women of the church to make plans to join us for this exciting new Bible study. We meet at Amity UMC on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:00 for fellowship, Bible study and prayer. Rev. Suzanne Dornsmith and Rev. Molly Shivers are excited to lead this group and kick-off with a study called You Matter More Than You Think. Come alone to meet new friends or invite an old friend to come with you. Childcare is available for those who need it.
GAP and the Adult Education Committee invite adults of all ages (including graduate students and young professionals) to wrestle with some of the questions of the faith through this video and internet-based small group exploration of progressive Christianity featuring premier religion voices of our day. The group discussions will be facilitated by Rev. Suzanne Dornsmith and Dustin Long and will explore topics such as: "Taking the Bible Seriously," "Thinking Theologically," and "Practicing Resurrection." This group meets on Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. in the East Parlor.
Companions in Christ is a foundational, small-group experience in Spiritual Formation. Experience is a focus: the experiences of the participants as they study, pray, reflect and share in the group. It has two main components: individual reading and exercises from the Participant’s Book and a weekly two-hour gathering to share responses and to explore at a deeper level the theme for the week. Journaling will be introduced as the primary way to record and reflect on the movement of the Spirit. There are five major themes -- Embracing the Journey: The Way of Christ; Feeding on the Word: The Mind of Christ; Deepening our Prayer: The Heart of Christ; Responding to Our Call: The Work of Christ, and Exploring Spiritual Guidance: The Spirit of Christ. This small group will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 from September 16 through mid-May at the home of Rosalie Olsen, the group’s facilitator.

Every baptized person is called to ministry. The Education for Ministry (EfM) program provides people with the education to carry out that ministry. This fall we will be offering the first year of the four-year EfM program. This is a comprehensive program that covers the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy and theology throughout the four years. It requires a substantial commitment of time, money and energy while offering the opportunity for each participant to more fully discover how to respond to his or her personal call of Christian service. The group meets on Tuesday mornings and is led by group mentor Mona Arnold (929-3209).
This study assumes that most people -- though faithful followers of Jesus they intend to be -- know little of the content of the central teachings of the Christian faith and its ties to Scripture. But they want to know! They want to know what is at stake in what the church teaches and how it makes a difference in their own lives, what it means to be Christian and where we as Christians stand. Christian Believer aims at understanding the substance of faith and the connection between believing and living. Our Christian Believer study meets on Wednesday evenings from 7:00-9:00 at Amity UMC. Rev. Manuel Wortman leads this study that focuses on reading the scriptures and writings on the Christian faith.
