Mary Henley Lecture Series
Make plans now to participate in the Mary Henley Lecture Series, Wednesdays, March 10-24, from 7:00-9:00 p.m., at Amity UMC. Dr. James “Mickey” Efird, a retired professor at Duke Divinity School, will teach a series on the Gospel of John. After this dynamic Bible study, come watch actor Brad Sherrill’s engaging performance of the Gospel of John at UUMC on Good Friday, April 2.

Project 5000
Help feed the hungry and love our neighbors by participating in Project 5000. This annual food drive provides food for those in need through the Inter-Faith Council for Social Service, Robeson County Church and Community Center, and for the first time in 2010, Chatham County OutReach Alliance. Click
here for more details, or look for more information and a Project 5000 box at church. Food will be collected at church through March 21.

Support Team Training
Are you looking to get more involved at UUMC? Join a team! Support teams use the group approach to help people in need. Individual members decide what they want to do, what they are able to do and the times they are available. A team leader coordinates the work. The group meets once every 4-6 weeks for one hour to share their experiences, support each other’s efforts and to plan for what is needed next. If you feel called to this type of ministry, plan on attending “basic training” for support team members on Saturday, March 20, from 9:00 a.m.–Noon. For more information, contact Marybeth Beyler.

Crop Walk
Make plans to join us for the Crop Walk or sponsor a walker on Sunday, March 21 and help raise money for hunger relief. In the Methodist tradition, we will have Circuit Walking ministers again this year. You can register and/or sponsor a walker who has registered on-line by going to www.cropwalkonline.org, or stop by the Crop Walk table in the back hall on March 7, 14 or 21. Our on-line team name is University United Methodist Church. Questions? Contact Kin White.

“No Stress” Book Club
The UUMC “No Stress” Book Club will meet on March 14 from 5:00-6:30 p.m. in the West Parlor to discuss The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. The “No Stress” Book Club is open to everyone who has an interest in the books being read. There is no obligation to attend each month, just as your schedule and interest allow. Come join us for a relaxed evening of fellowship and lively discussion. Feel free to bring a friend!

5th Monday Book Club
Introducing the “5th Monday Book Club” for men of UUMC, brought to you by the United Methodist Men (UMM).  We will kick-off our new Men’s Book Club on Monday, March 29, at 7:00 p.m. with a discussion on the book Season of Life by Jeffrey Marx. We’ll meet at the R&R Grill on Franklin Street for a lively discussion and fellowship led by Robbie Dircks and Greg Carswell. We invite you to join us whether you have read the book or not. See http://www.seasonoflife.com for reviews.

Helping Haiti

It’s been more than a month since the catastrophic earthquake in Haiti, and the people in the devastated country still need our help. To learn how you can make a difference in their lives, please click here.

Seeking “Walk to Emmaus” Community Members
We are seeking Emmaus Community members who are members of UUMC in order to start up an Emmaus Reunion Group. If you have been on a Walk to Emmaus Weekend, please contact Lynn and Greg Carswell at 241-3397.

Altar Flowers in 2010
If you would like to honor or remember a loved one by providing flowers on the altar for Sunday worship services, please contact the church office at 929-7191. Each arrangement is $55 or you can provide both for $110. The flowers may be removed after the 10:55 a.m. worship service or you may leave them for our Quiet Care Committee to distribute to our home-bound members and friends.

Graduates and Young Professionals
Our young adults – both graduate students and non-students – join together throughout the week for study and fellowship. The group meets weekly on Tuesday using the NOOMA video series at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. On Wednesdays the group gathers for trivia at 8:00 p.m. at Linda’s on Franklin Street. On Sundays they meet after the 10:55 a.m. worship service to have lunch on Franklin Street.

Nurses Wanted
The Health Ministry is seeking registered nurse volunteers to help with blood pressure screenings on the third Sunday of each month. If you have an active R.N. license and would be willing to serve one or two Sundays a year, please contact Jane Campbell (929-7191 ext. 28) and leave a message.

Help UUMP While You Shop
Harris Teeter shoppers can link your VIC card at checkout to UUMP #2755. You can link up to five schools on your VIC card so you can still help UUMP as well as other schools. If you shop at Food Lion, Whole Foods or Weaver Street Market, please contact
Laura Ballenger (383-8304) to learn how you can participate. UUMP earns cash back when you shop at these stores with certificates purchased through UUMP.

Parent Morning Fellowship
Parents and their young children are invited to be a part of Parent Morning Fellowship this winter. Parents along with their infants and toddlers meet in the nursery from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Contact Beth Alexander (929-7191, ext. 22) for more information.
